Safari improvementsīig Sur comes with a new version of Apple’s web browser, although you don’t actually need to upgrade your entire OS in order to get Safari 14. You can customise which widgets are displayed here and choose from three different sizes for each one – just open the Notification Centre by clicking on the date and time in the right of the top toolbar, then scroll down and click Edit Widgets. The notification area gets a big boost thanks to the addition of widgets – mini app windows that let you see your day’s calendar appointments, a weather summary or the top news stories. Big Sur offers a clean, streamlined user experience that’s more consistent with recent versions of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. Taken together, these tweaks are surprisingly impactful in refreshing the look of the interface. Rounded corners are now slightly more pronounced, app windows have full-height sidebars and simplified toolbars across the top, while the revamped dock at the bottom of the screen now houses uniformly shaped app icons. Taken individually, the redesigned elements of Apple’s user interface don’t deviate too radically from Big Sur’s predecessors.
